But hello there, horror nerds. Welcome to Prime Time, bitches, Slasher World. We are at Slasher World on Melrose, LA's prominent, most iconic 90s vintage-feeling, wonderful horror themed space. Blockbuster, we miss you, but now we have Slasher World. Listen, we are bringing an all-horror themed stand-up comedy show right here to Elm Street, Melrose, Elm Street and our house. And we're so excited. We have an incredible lineup. We will see you there. Hi, Sam.
SPEAKER_01How are you? Hello there.
SPEAKER_04Hello. Hi. Look at us. Just a couple Barbie girls living in a Barbie world. No, we're final girls. We're final girls.
SPEAKER_02Living in a slasher world? Or maybe we're a coven, because I do have my familiar right behind me who's conveniently taking a nap.
SPEAKER_03Welcome to Homered The Podcast.
SPEAKER_02Sometimes villains are fun, and sometimes amazing people create entire businesses around villains, specifically Slasher, Slasher World on Melrush! Slasher World! If you haven't heard of Slasher World by now, what horror rock are you living under? It's an amazing, magical place. It's a storefront with all of like the entrances to different houses. We have the Nightmare and Elm Street house, we have Michael Myers' house, and then we have the full in the window right in the storefront on Melrose. We have the dinner table scene from Texas Chainsaw, and that's the creepiest one. And that leather face kind of figure dummy, whatever you want to call him. I'm convinced that thing moves. That's the one that freaks me out. He moves at night. Yeah. Like nightly museum. Oh, I should ask Kiko. Shout out to Kiko, who uh created Slasher World, who's amazing, badass women in horror. Yay! We love you, Kiko. We love you. And we're so grateful that we get to bring Horror Nerd back on September 11th, 8 p.m. Also, there's Slashback Video, which is an incredible VHS museum in the back. And you walk in there and you're like, oh my god, I feel young again. It's really impressive. Oh, this is where all the cool kids go.
SPEAKER_04Hello, childhood. I've missed you. Back when we didn't have any responsibilities.
SPEAKER_02I mean, because if you grew up where your big weekend plan was, all right, you guys, we're going to Blockbuster, we're gonna go try to go before the rush so that we can get the new releases. And then, you know, you go and you just hope that you see the VHS box and that the rentals behind it, and you're just like, come on. And then when it's not there, you run up to the front and to the return bin, and you're like, excuse me, uh, would you mind looking in the return bin for uh Dream Warriors, please? Do you guys have that one? I guess that maybe Dream Warriors is probably a little before Blockbuster, maybe. I don't know the chronological chronological order. But uh, that was like my jam. That was a bonding experience with my mom. We would go to Hollywood Video, we would go to Blockbuster, and then when the new releases weren't new anymore, you'd go and buy them used. And ironically, now that VHS is making comeback, now I'm looking at thrift stores and flea markets to find these videos that I might have even donated years ago, thinking I'm not gonna, I don't need VHS. We have DVD now. I don't watch DVD at all, but I will watch VHS. Yep.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_02You guys know how I feel about Batman Return. Okay, baby. Uh that's our guy. Yeah. Sorry, Chuck, I'm not told you. I'm talking about top of the marin to be a sexy I think my coffee just kicked in.
SPEAKER_04I think so too, but that was great. I was just watching, like, yeah, keep going. Let's go. I don't have to say shit.
SPEAKER_02I'm also full on Sally right now trying to outrun a chainsaw because I have a feeling they're coming. Uh let me know if you can hear it.
SPEAKER_04Okay, I'll let you know. But you know what's funny is mine just got here too for the place. Damn it! Why did we're in this together. If you have to outrun chainsaws, so do I. You know?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04We're we're bonded at our elder millennial hips that somehow feel younger inside of Slashback video. My knees do not snap, crackle, and pop inside of the slashback video because I I am transported to a younger time.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Isn't it wild?
SPEAKER_02I think that's what it is. And speaking of Elder Millennial, shout out to my friend Valerie Tossey, who does have an album named Elder Millennial, which she's an amazing comic. Uh, Valerie is the one who introduced me to Dana Gould, who is going to be our very special guest for the slashback. Horror nerd. I texted Dana, I was like, oh my God. We're doing Slash World. He's like, I'm in. So it was really because he's he's a nerd at heart, just like us. And obviously, nerd is a high compliment. And it's really cool because the other day a friend of mine was like, Oh, I was listening to Dana's podcast, and he said that horror nerd is is his favorite show in Los Angeles. And I was like, uh, well, isn't that the highest of high honors? Pretty cool. Wow.
SPEAKER_04You have to frame that. Are you kidding?
SPEAKER_02Very, very that.
SPEAKER_04Um that's like testament with Jennifer Tilly and Elvira that you have, which by the way, holy shit, to be able to get those goddesses to to go, like, yes, you know, the the horror nerd in me recognizes the horror nerd in you to get them to do that.
SPEAKER_02God. Um still, speaking of Elvira, I have got to give a shout-out again to Peaches Christ, who is so iconic and legendary and talented and giving. Like, I was able to uh we'll we've talked about it on the Midsummer Scream episode, but getting to open Return of the Living Drag at Midsummer Screen, it made my heart so happy. So, so, so happy. And Peaches is the one who connected me with Cassandra Peterson. So that's like I will be eternally grateful for that.
SPEAKER_04Incredible. We gotta get Peaches on the show. That would be so fun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Peaches and Michael Virati, who is an incredible filmmaker, horror director who's done some incredible queer horror films that are just so fucking good. And uh, I even got to do a bit part in one of them. I got to play a sassy host at a bar, which I have done in real life also. Method. So I appreciate that. You're method actor.
SPEAKER_04I'm so excited that you have Dana on the show on the 11th, because he's one of, look, I think every comic you get, like I always have a great time at your shows, but it's a treat when Dana is there, when Dana joins, because I feel like, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you necessarily give him the type five. I think he gets a little bit more leeway.
SPEAKER_02No, no. I always figure, okay, ballpark this, but then I think sometimes like he knows how, and I say this again as a compliment, how weird our audiences are. Like he can do material that he can't do on normal shows. And so I think it's extra, I I would like to think, I I mean, I he said it, but it's extra fun for him to do horror nerd. So I always just kind of plan for like I will cut my own time if I need to. I don't care. I'd rather watch him do 15 minutes on the story of Dracula because he has done that and it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Yeah, it's like anytime I can get him, anytime he's in town, he just has like an open invite, you know, just grace us with your genius. And he's just such a fun dude. Like me and a few other comics were on a group chat and we just text each other, did you see this spooky thing? Are we going to this haunt this year? Guys, what are we doing? Like, and if there's, you know, like a cool screening of an old, like a 70s horror film, or something, we all try to meet up and go, so it's good. We're all in this spooky world together.
SPEAKER_06It's almost complete, Igor. What we've been working on since 2021 is almost ready. Are the labels applied?
SPEAKER_05Yes, master. The costume blends are ready, inspired by cold classics, horror films, and cold gelatin! What about the hand sanitizers? Yes, master. As are the roller blends and the room sprays. And the challenge to it in the new packaging? Yes, master!
SPEAKER_06And the about me page? People must know that we are a Latino and LGBTQ plus owned business. Passionate about building an inclusive community. Where horror fans and self-proclaimed weirdos can celebrate individuality, healing, and the strange things that make us who we are. Of course, Master! Yes! Brilliant! Connect the server to the internet!
SPEAKER_05Out it goes! The world wide web!
SPEAKER_06More power, Igor! Give it everything!
SPEAKER_05It's live! The new website is live! The new website for the magic oil box is live at themagicoilbox.com.
SPEAKER_06Eagle! Tell them! They can save 15% when they use code SLA Nerds 15 when they shop online.
SPEAKER_02But there's not that many comics who are like, this is what they love. Like this is what they actually do. Um like they would be the first two that I would think of. You know, and it's funny because anytime, like if I were to have a name on the show, I don't expect them to actually do horror material. I'm like, they're just gonna show up and be awesome, and then maybe they'll be like, oh shit, what's all this weird shit on stage? Oh, okay. I guess I should do a scary movie joke, and then, but you know, if they're gracious enough to show up and drop in, fuck it, do whatever you want. But I'm excited for the slasher world lineup because it's all like legit nerds. Like it's all like Josh Levesque, who's amazing, and you know, a great horror, horror guy who's putting out amazing content and reviews, and he's just he's awesome. Katie Hettenbach, who's Katie Afrady, who has an who's just uh celebrating her 200th episode, which is so cool. Wow. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's uh it's gonna be such a good lineup.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's a great space, great lineup. I love the last one that was there when it was my birthday weekend, and you were like, hey, come do your come come celebrate with us. And it was the scariest happy birthday that anybody had ever sung to me. Thank you, Barry Under Your Bed and Jeff.
SPEAKER_02So it's funny because Jeff Heimbuck, who does Barry Under Your Bed, who's like kind of, he's just a part of the show now. Like we're we're stuck with each other forever. Like he's kind of I'm I'm really grateful to have him. He's become kind of my regular host for like in October. The lineup change is a little bit different from my road gigs, where I'll be headlining, doing like a long set at the end, and then I'll have maybe like a couple features, and then Jeff always hosts because I trust him, he knows the show. But our like ongoing thing is like just show up whenever you want and heckle me whenever you want. So I have a feeling that there might be a berry under your bed popping out of the Michael Myers house to harass me during the show. Just putting that out there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, I feel like that's an appropriate place for him to pop out of. And like you were you were saying earlier, the sets that they have, the miniature sets that are not just great for photo ops, but with the merchandise over there at Slasher World are incredible. And you have you have Michael outside of the house, which I love that it looks like the house in Pasadena. It totally does. Yeah, and then you go over there. Oh, now I hear the the leaf blowers. Yeah. Speaking of Leatherface, run, run. Uh, it's so good. But then the the cabins from Evil Dead is over there, and then you have Which is our stage.
SPEAKER_02The art the Evil Dead cabin is what we're performing in front of the entrance to the cabin. And then when you get into the cabin, it's just leaf blowers. So why don't I put myself on mute and then you can talk for a while? Can I do that?
SPEAKER_04Yeah. I feel like I feel like it's that scene in Wayne's world when Wayne and Garth are hanging out, and then Wayne leaves, and then the camera's following Garth, and he's like, Hi. Um, okay, so we're gonna go over here now, and he runs away. It's one of the funniest. That I swear to god, like half of my vocal sims come from that movie. But no, Slasher World. I I know we keep going back to Slasher World. It's okay. We both might have ADHD. I don't know. It's fine. Who's to say? Who's to say? Who's to say? I don't know. I don't know. This is the quietest you've ever been in the years.
SPEAKER_02Wait, wait, pretend I'm Art the Clown.
SPEAKER_00Pretend I'm Art the Clown. Okay, okay, ready? Okay. That is the best impression of Art the Clown I've ever seen.
SPEAKER_02That was really good. I think that'll be good though. I think that'll work.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02You're back. Hold on. I gotta go back to Art the Clown mode.
SPEAKER_04Isn't this a treat for all of you? You didn't know that we were gonna have Art the Clown on the show today with maybe the best impression in the history of impressions portrayed by my lovely co-host Samantha Hale. Look at that. That is you're killing it, and you have another clown on your shirt. This is very meta right now. We just need Pennywise to pop in behind you, and maybe one of the clowns from Killer Clowns from Outer Space. Yeah. Do you remember the the big clown scares of 2016 where it was clowns were roaming around and people were seeing all the clown sightings? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I literally remember that. I was fully ready. I was like, it wasn't me, I promise.
SPEAKER_04No, after that, I'm kind of starting to wonder if it was. I'm I'm a little I'm a little suspicious about it. A little bit.
SPEAKER_01I should have gotten more credit for it. I maybe could have gotten like, you know, a few followers out of it or something. Jeez.
SPEAKER_04Look, just be glad you didn't cross my path when that happened, because I was fully ready. I was like, if a clown, I am not above knocking out a clown. If it like like pops up in front of me.
SPEAKER_02Wait, wait, wait, you should have been making that noise.
SPEAKER_04You might have tried a hundred platforms, each with hidden costs, plugins, multiple logins. But now there's Beamly. Drag and drop website, podcast hosting, online courses, memberships, digital products, and 0% platform fees. All your tools in one crypt. Uh, please. Head to beamly.com and raise your creator studio from the dead in the best way.
SPEAKER_02We're professionals and adults. I just want to put that out there. Yep. Yep. But guess what, B? Tickets are on sale right now. You can go to hosherworldla.com and you can grab them and you can let us know that you are coming. We're also going to have David Bertolino, the founder of Spooky World, is going to be there with this new incredible book, which basically walks you through the history of the first ever haunt, really, in the United States, which is really cool.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. My favorite entrepreneur.
SPEAKER_02Entrepreneur. And you never know who else might pop up. It's Slasher World. It's it's like I would say that Slasher World is legit a favorite amongst the horror community. Um, not only people who love horror, but people who create horror. You know, it's funny, the last time that I was there, gosh, it was a it was a party, some sort of celebration or something, just to celebrate how hard Kiko works and how amazing she is. Yeah. And yeah, and so I pop in and I come through the back, immediately like literally run into Spencer Sharnist. So I was like, oh, that was cool. And then I make eye contact with this guy, and I'm like, come on, brain, work. You know you know him. You've you know this guy. And we're both you know, when you're looking at someone like we know each other. What is happening? And then finally, you know, I go and I get a drink. Oh, by the way, Barmaid Beauties will be back creating very spooky and delicious cocktails. I think we had the whiskey something killer whiskey or something.
SPEAKER_04We did, we did, yeah.
SPEAKER_02That was fun. So they'll be there. And we love an audience who has a little bit of a buzz because hey, we're funnier that way. Um but so I'm so you know, I go and I get a drink and I come back and I and I'm catching up with Spencer for a second. He's like, Oh, this is my friend John. I'm like, I knew the hi, what's up, John Kassier? It was John Kassier, voice of the Cripkeeper, amazing voiceover artist. And we actually had an incredible conversation. I don't know, it was like last time I saw him, I don't know if it was a year ago or earlier, but we kind of bonded over stand-up because he did stand-up comedy before he got the Crip Keeper. He I think he was on Star Search, believe it or not. And so, yeah, so we were just kind of trading, you know, horror stories, if you will, about the stand-up comedy industry. Yeah. And he has an open invitation to the show. He's like, I I I'm thinking stand-up again, like not as a character, but as me. I'm like, okay. Well, whenever you, John, want to pop in, you know where to find me. So uh yeah. So actually I invited him to the show on the 11th, but he's gonna be out of town, sadly. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a good excuse, I guess. I know, we'll allow it. But um, he's such a nice guy. What a great, great, great guy, who we all grew up with, you know? I mean, yeah. Pretty amazing. But so that's really the caliber of Slasher World. It's just where the weird kids do, it's it's it's very we're surrounded by slashers. We feel at home there. We do. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04You got Ghostface in the kitchen, you got Michael hanging out on the stoop, you got Freddy out front. You can't get too close to the house from Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddie, actual house.
SPEAKER_02Or be no, not the actual house, which ironically is what, like 10 minutes up the road? But the people who live in it now are not very nice. Why buy that house, you dumb dumb? Yep.
SPEAKER_04That's why we can get close to the house at Slasher World.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_04It's like it's like a little mini Disneyland for the the goth kids who love horror without the crazy high prices, but lots of great merchandise. And I just saw, actually, right before we recorded, I just saw that they have Jaws merchandise there now, too, and like a big table display.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's fine.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so I'll have to go get some of that too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that will be the plan. Oh my gosh, I have so much Jaws stuff. What's what's one more thing?
SPEAKER_04What's one more thing? I feel like you need more.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know. I know. Oh, they're back. They're back. Oh, remake Jaws, but with a leaf blower. It's just a leaf blower coming up underneath the swimmer. I've had a lot of coffee this morning.
SPEAKER_04That would be my horror movie, truly and honestly. That is the scariest thing to me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Because it's always right before I record from home. I like I have the times all written down of when lawnblow lawnblowers, lawnblowers, that's a movie. Ooh, that's the X-rated Lawnmower Man.
SPEAKER_02The lawn blower. That's like the third one that's like part of the trilogy, but not part. It's like Halloween 3. You know, it's a whole new villain. The main villain's not in it, but we still love it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, yeah. Exactly. Like I have it all written down. Like, when does this happen? And when does this happen? When does this happen? And usually they're they're pretty close, but sometimes they show up at a totally different time.
SPEAKER_02That's what happens today. We had scheduled a time earlier. I'm like, God, that's usually when they always come. And then nope, not here.
SPEAKER_04Nope, nope. They're on daylight savings time or whatever.
SPEAKER_02Well, I I don't know. Honestly, I think we got a pretty funny art the clown bit out of it. So I'm kind of maybe I should go get them a beer anyway. Say thanks, guys. You forced us into a more creative outlet. All right, so horror nerds. We will see you September 11th, 8 p.m. Doors open at 7. Slasherworld on Melrose. Get there early, grab a seat, but you're gonna want to take pictures with all of the photo ops. I mean, it just trust us, it's cool as fuck. A lot of hard work and detail went into setting up this place. There's gonna be lots of cool merch to look at. Um, check out the museum, obviously. Feel joy. But yeah, you can go on the website slasherworldla.com, and of course, you can follow us on our socials. We'll be posting it as well at Horror Nerd Comedy. I'm really excited for this one. Dana Gould will be there, of course, and uh we will see you then. Woo!
