Hello, ladies. Wait, let me put on my Wizardmaster glasses so I can see. Okay, this is cool. I could actually see better now than with my real glasses. What's going on with magic?
SPEAKER_01Wait, can you see what our superpowers would be in our dreams?
unknownOh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00Oh. No pressure. Johnny's the librarian. Oh my gosh. You're a librarian in your dreams. And oh my gosh, wait, you are a makeup artist. Oh my God. I'll take it.
SPEAKER_01That's all I've ever wanted to be. This is amazing. Well, welcome to the Horror Nerds Comedy Podcast, everybody.
SPEAKER_00It's so funny because it's scary to be here.
SPEAKER_01Oh my wickedness.
SPEAKER_04Every day. Every day.
SPEAKER_03Welcome to the the podcast.
SPEAKER_00Oh wait, hold on. I'm getting a call. Hello. Hello. Hello? Oh gosh. No. This hand never works. I'm so happy to be on this podcast with you girls. I cannot tell you. It's it's been, it was first of all, super exciting to meet you live at that awesome event.
SPEAKER_01In the flesh at Slasher World.
SPEAKER_00In the flesh at Slasher World.
SPEAKER_01For those of you who haven't been to Slasher World, it's just like a photo-op heaven for a horror nerd, right? But it's also like nostalgia heaven with the VHS museum in the back. It's crazy. It's yeah, it's like walking into like the most fantastical blockbuster you would have found in the 90s, but better.
SPEAKER_00You've got the full-on Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2 pop-up, you know, the cardboard.
SPEAKER_01Right. Well, I'm like, where does she even get that? I need to ask her, where did you get this? Where did you get this? Where did you get this? Um yeah, and we we love uh Nightmare 2 because we actually had Christopher Young on the show, who is the composer. Oh yeah. Delightful. He's the nicest guy on the planet. He also nicest guy on the planet.
SPEAKER_00Thank you. Finally. Okay, thank you.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, all kinds of cool tie-ins with the world of a nightmare in Elm Street. All kinds.
SPEAKER_00It's such a cool base to be a part of. Oh my gosh. You know, the nightmare family is pretty epic. And the fans are even better. So it's it's crazy cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. I mean, I would say that's a big way of how we describe, we would like to think we have a horror nerd community, right? Between the podcasts and the live shows and everything that we do, we it we literally say family. Like it is family. This is where all the maybe the not as cool kids growing up that got picked on get to go and feel like, hey, I can just be who I am here. And um, and chances are someone else will have some weird, oh my god, I love that movie too. How about this? I just found so I love flea markets and vintage marts and whatnot. So I just went to the Pasadena City College and I found two VHSs that I was very excited about. I found Psycho 3, which I was really excited about, because Anthony Perkins directed it. Oh, which is yeah. And then I found here's a weird one that I'm like, I know that I'm gonna be friends with someone if they know what this is. Drop dead Fred. Do you guys remember that? Yes. Yeah, so Phoebe K. Oh my gosh, with Phoebe Cage.
SPEAKER_00Phoebe Cage?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, get on it. Get on it, I remember. No way.
SPEAKER_00But do you think it's as good as as this, maybe? I don't know.
SPEAKER_01I don't know if much of anything is as good as that. And that is the VHS that's like so expensive.
SPEAKER_00It's so crazy, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's the one everyone wants. That's why you can never find it. And when you do, it's like $70. Because everybody wants the third one, specifically myself included.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Well, you girls can have mine for $69.99.
SPEAKER_01So yes. Only if you sign it. Saved a penny.
SPEAKER_00See how I save you? Penny for your thoughts and a penny for me. So anyway.
SPEAKER_01I like it. Yeah. So I mean, I'm imagining that you've been asked every question there can be about Dream Warriors. I mean, is there anything that you've always wanted to tell the fans that no one's ever asked you?
SPEAKER_00Ah, good question.
SPEAKER_01I g started with a good one. Yes.
SPEAKER_00You know, it's funny because didn't DeAndra asked, she said something like that as well at the Slasherworld event. Oh, she did. And it she really makes me think because I think my character, like when he first got introduced or got to show off his powers, was um a classic moment and one that kind of maybe gets overlooked a little bit. And I think it's the one well, there's two parts. One is when we're playing Dungeons and Dragons with Joey and Taryn. And uh, you know, I get to show that I'm like the wizard master, I'm the dungeon master, I'm I'm guiding everything through. And then Lawrence Fishburne comes in and lights up, picks me up, and and that's the end of the scene until we see unfortunately Bradley Gregg jumping off the roof. All of us screaming. But the one after that, when we're all trying to get into our dreams and no one knows if it's really working or not, and then I'm like, we're here. And you're like, what? How do you know? Well, in my dreams, I can walk and I get out of my wheelchair and stand up. It's a defining moment. Like, holy shit, we are here. Um, this is this is my power, and watch this. I can I can create things, and that's when I bring out that beautiful butterfly, you know? Right. And that's when we all start showing off our powers. So I think that's like a lesser question asked, but one that definitely needs to be pried open.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. It's the literal moment where you literally stand up for yourselves. Like it's there's so much meaning in yes, you are physically able to stand now again, but also let's go get this motherfucker. Come on, guys. Like, we're a team, we're family, we can do this.
SPEAKER_00Let's do it together. Because you don't want to take that asshole on alone.
SPEAKER_01No, God. No, no, no. I was listening to this podcast. Here's the cool thing though. Like, if you look on YouTube, I just went on this morning and you Google Dream Warriors Review Reaction Recap. There's tons of new content out there because people still so very genuinely love this film. And it's just like newer and younger and younger generations are saying, no, no, no, you gotta watch a third one. We love the first one. Do not get me wrong. We love the first one. That's OG Johnny. That's fabulous.
SPEAKER_00But crap tops.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we love it.
SPEAKER_00I mean he was awesome. And I mean, honestly, I had just come out to LA and got cast in a commercial for the movies. It was Pepsi commercial. It was called Let's Go to the Movies. And um, it was right after Johnny did uh Nightmare, probably like a year and maybe three months or four months after. It was pre-Johnny Depp for uh gosh, what was the m the TV show he did, 21 Jump Street?
SPEAKER_02Oh, right.
SPEAKER_00Um so it was pre-21 Jump Street, but I had just come out here and I had just seen him in Nightmare on Elm Street, and I booked the commercial with him. He played the punk rocker, Cheryl Lynn Finn, actual girlfriend at the time, she was the other punk rocker. But it was so cool because I got to talk to him a little bit, like, oh my god, you scared that that movie just scared the hell out of me. So there's absolutely nothing to take away from number one, but the greatest thing about three, which, you know, two is so different in its own way, and magical in its own way.
SPEAKER_01Magical flying headphones.
SPEAKER_00Flying headphones, yeah. Was how, you know, we were all thrown in a mental ward and we all had to fight together as a team.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_00You know, and uh I don't know, it has a lot to do with today, the mental awareness and with what's going on and and how crazy it is, and how kids need to be more friendly to each other and and be there for each other, and that's how we were in the movie, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. And also the really cool thing about horror as a genre is oftentimes, more often than not, it's it's commentary on what's happening currently in society, what's going on. And I would imagine, like around you know, in the 70s, 80s, 90s, a lot of kids maybe were misunderstood. Maybe we didn't they weren't as familiar with autism or bipolar or whatever it is. So some of these kids who did nothing wrong were getting thrown away into these programs like, oh, fix your kids, send them to this hospital. When in fact it wasn't what they actually needed. And so it was yeah, it was really cool to see the film take that on as well.
SPEAKER_00It's kind of cool because I just did a podcast with this guy, Davey. He's in Phoenix, and he was talking about how he grew up in in like a small part of Alaska. Uh I forgot what town he said, but there was like he said there was like five misfits, and he was one of them. You know, and in high school, like like nobody got these guys, nobody, but they got each other. And they w were able to watch horror movies together, and they got into rock and roll and they got into docking, and you know, so so you know, they got together as a team, you know, as kids, as as we did in the movie. Yeah, it was it was so special to be a part of that group. And I mean, you guys met a couple of the characters from there, Ken and Bradley.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, you know, just to to get to hang with those guys. I mean, it's it's the best. They're they're still my friends, as you as you saw.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that was so fun. Yeah. You could still see that you guys have this special bond with each other that you know, only only a few years later that you still have it, and it's incredible.
SPEAKER_00Isn't it crazy? Yeah, only for 40 years next year. 40 years.
SPEAKER_01That's uh I don't believe that. And they were all be, I don't know if you looked at like a bunch of our pictures, but they were photobombing us. And we thought it was the three of us doing the wizard post. They were all photobombing us. They're great. Oh my god. I need to go back and look at those. I'll put one in the episode. That's amazing. Some of the best ones. Oh, they were having a great time. I was like, oh, these pictures are even better than I thought.
SPEAKER_00See, that's the greatest things about those small like meet and greets that Kiko and I produce. I mean, you know, even three, four hours, whatever, but it's just all in that one evening, you know, and and you get to mingle and jingle and have a great time. And it's not, you know, lie to Texas, you know, be up in a hotel. And then you guys, if you guys want to see us, you got to travel all the way to Texas, you know, right to make it happen. So that's fun. And you get to be photobombed and, you know, you get to hear fun stories and and interact with I mean, my gosh, Tina of all, of all, Amanda Wis. Come on.
SPEAKER_01I know, who was so lovely. Like she was like the event was over. We didn't want to bother her. But we're like, no, we have to get Amanda and she stopped in her tracks and came back. She was so nice. Yeah, everyone, it just felt like super personable and just organic. And it felt because you know, I mean, I love the big conventions. Don't get me wrong, it's so fun. There's lots to do and see. But this just had a different vibe of just like, hey, we're hanging out in a spooky living room, and we all like the same stuff.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_04It was a hangout vibe versus how overwhelming the conventions can be, just with they're so big and you're walking around, and then the terrible lighting. The terrible fluorescent lighting. And this was like hanging out truly horrible for anybody 40 and older with lights and the lines.
SPEAKER_01It's none of us. I do have to say, the best picture I've ever gotten at a convention, it was actually me and Linda Blair. And she had this big ring light and insist-like, she knows what she's doing. That picture looked fabulous. I didn't even have to filter it.
SPEAKER_00Linda Blair. So here's my Linda Blair story. Yes. Um I auditioned and nailed it and got it. A movie called Zapped Again. That's correct. It's a sequel. The sequel to the Scott Bayo Willie Ames film called Zapped.
SPEAKER_01Oh my.
SPEAKER_00But they both were not in this one. This was Todd Eric Andrews. This was Kelly Williams. This was Reed Rudy. This was Ross Harris and Ira Hyden. There were also people like Lyle Alzado. I'm not sure if you're familiar with him. He was a late great awesome football player for the Oakland Raiders. It was Linda Blair. It was Karen Black.
SPEAKER_01Karen Black! I love Karen Black.
SPEAKER_00It was crazy, but Linda was awesome. It was so cool. She played the sex ed teacher.
SPEAKER_01Oh, love it.
SPEAKER_00It was a lot of fun. So we always see each other on conventions and we we talk about that. While she's smoking her cigarettes and saving animals, saving rescue pit bulls everywhere. We gotta get a new one, you know?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, she's amazing. I mean, she's helping so many dogs. It's a long story short, but I almost did take a dog from her, and then I wound up finding a kitten, and then the dog that I was interested in wound up being not great with cats. So it didn't work out. But I did get to know her a little bit that way, and she was so lovely, and we'd were just texting back and forth. And then when I finally met her in person, we had done like a video home check because it's great that she does that. She wants to make sure that the dogs are going to a good place and everything.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, and so when I met her in person, she's like, Oh my god, your house is so colorful. I love your house. And I just thought it was so cool that she remembered that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's really cool.
SPEAKER_04Is this thing on? Um, hey, uh, you don't need to tap the mic. It's ready whenever you are. Just uh give me a take one whenever you're ready. Howdy y'all, this is Raccula. Yes, you heard that right, but it's not what you think. I'm a publicist for monsters and all the things I go bump in the night, and I rack up the wins for my clients and Oh hell's bells, I'm so sorry about that. It's the Mothman calling. He wanted to tell me how the Mothman Festival went. At least I I think so. Either that or he's trying to take me out for coffee again. Let me just send him back a text real quick. It's fine. We just, um we're on a bit of a tight deadline here. Our season three premiere is on October 6th, and I only booked one hour of studio time for this. Can I try that again? Let's just do a pickup. Can you take it from and I rack up the wins? Sure thing. Great. And we're rolling. And I rack up the wins for my clients. Now, I am just tickled pink that Samantha and Bonnie asked me to do this commercial for one of my favorite brands, the Magic Oil Box. And I've gotta tell y'all, the founder Alex has done something absolutely incredible with the new, revamped look and feel of these scary good aromatherapy blends. As someone who works with legendary brands, it is my honor to introduce y'all to the new genre of aromatherapy. Ghost stories. Ooh, I know. Spooky, scary, smelling good. What's not to love? How am I doing? Is that okay? I think you're actually doing great. Um, we're definitely not fitting this in 30 seconds, but I hope Alex loves it. Great. The Black Zodiac Collection explores the darker part of the human experience, rooted in shadow, symbolism, and self-reflection. Each blend transforms those experiences into an intentional aromatherapy ritual. I gotta say, y'all, the copywriter for this is amazing. Just give them the promo code and we'll wrap it up. Whether you've got the spirit in your heart or ghosts in your basement, use code SLAYNerds15 when you shop online at theMagicOilbox.com to save and buy one for you, your boo, or your whole crew. Bless you. I'm not gonna tell my cousin Dracula you said that. Let's just do a pickup on the tagline again for safety. Use code SLAY Nerds15 to save 15% when you shop online at themagicoilbox.com. Great. Let me get this to our editor and we'll get back to the show. That's what's fun about the conventions.
SPEAKER_00It is. And also the, you know, the people that you get to meet that you never got to meet, you know? Right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then and then again, like, you know, running into running into everybody again, like um running into D. Snyder from Twisted Sister.
SPEAKER_04And Pee-wee's Big Adventure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh my gosh. Good call.
SPEAKER_04I love that movie.
SPEAKER_00So the very first thing I ever ever did before I even jumped into the union was a music video called Be Cruel to Your School for Twisted Sister with Alice Cooper.
SPEAKER_01Uh huh.
SPEAKER_00Bob Cat Goldthwaite.
SPEAKER_01I love Bob Kat.
SPEAKER_00He was the teacher. We were all in school and high school, and I was weird, but I was the nerd. And uh we're like getting super tired, and then Wis's sister, I think, just busts in and zaps us. I don't know. We turn into zombies. So you'll see us like literally like walking through, like uh like being zombies and killing people. It was hysterical. Um so yeah, I got to see him at one of these conventions, and he said, Do you realize who else was in that video? I was like, who? He said, Luke Perry from 90210.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Luke Perry.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's so fun. So I used to run a comedy show at this place called Hamburger Mary's in West Hollywood. They do a lot of drag shows and and big bo and stuff like that. But so I ran my show there for a while, and one day it's like 10 p.m. on a Monday, I'm leaving and I'm walking towards my car in the parking lot, and I see this like group of mostly women surrounding someone who's sitting on the curb. And I'm like, why are all these women? What is happening? It was Luke Perry. He was just sitting on the curb. I don't know where how he got there or where he came from, but he was being so nice to everybody. And it was just a cool moment of, oh shit, that's Luke Perry.
SPEAKER_04And because everything in my life revolves around Buffy the Vampire Slayer, we know Luke Perry was in the movie, which is one of my other favorite movies. And at Hamburger Marys, they had a Buffy burger for a very long time that had a lot of garlic in it. And that's what I always get.
SPEAKER_01Maybe that's why he was there.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. See, another great thing where it leads right back into the conventions. I did Washington HorrorCon, the Washington State Horror Con last October and ran into a friend who I hadn't talked to in years since I was in an acting class, improv acting class with her, is Christy Swanson.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah. OG Buffy. The OG.
SPEAKER_00OG Buff.
SPEAKER_01You know what's cool? I just um I collaborated with another podcast, and they were like, pick your top like good for her films. And so, like, you know, uh, Ready or Not was in there, Buffy was in there, and so Christy Swanson was tagged on it, and she's sort of following me. And I was like, oh, Buffy's following me on Instagram.
SPEAKER_00Dang, that's that's pretty cool because Buffy hasn't followed me. I can't see.
SPEAKER_01I don't know how or why, but I'll take it.
SPEAKER_00Right on. I gotta get Buffy to follow me now. It's not fair. Right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm right there with you.
SPEAKER_00Hold on. Hello.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god.
SPEAKER_00Hello. Wait, can you help me? Can you help me? Get me out of this jail, this prison cell.
SPEAKER_01I don't think we can help you with that. I think you're on your own with the glove. All right. Tell us about that glove.
SPEAKER_00Is it like a this is a glove from Anders Ericton that he directed um or he produces a lot of the nightmare gloves? You can go to his website. He gave me this one for Slasher World to just represent and hang there and and and show it off. And it's really cool. And it comes with dandy fingers and it slices you and dices you.
SPEAKER_01As it should. I mean, that it does have a job to do. Don't threaten me with a good time.
SPEAKER_00Do I get Robert to sign this or do I just leave it alone? It's just so cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Uh why not?
SPEAKER_00Oh, wait, I should take you into the history. So I don't know if you could zoom in on that, but this was given to me on after we rapped on Nightmare 3. And uh it says Robert England, 1286. It's even dated. There he is, getting ready to kill me. And he writes, Ira, eat shit and die, Freddie Kay.
SPEAKER_01That's so sweet.
SPEAKER_00Isn't that sweet?
SPEAKER_01That's so nice.
SPEAKER_00Yes. This is like my wall of fame, by the way, because down just next to it is six years ago is the thing I produced at the Whiskey Gogo called Robert England and the Dream Warriors. We read the script.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, when was this? Can can you do it again, please?
SPEAKER_00So I would love to do it again. But this was September 8th at 1 p.m. at the world-famous Whiskey Gogo. My buddy Jake Perry brings all the people in. He hires the talent and everything. And I called him and I said, dude, can we just do like a reading where we can all get on stage, do nightmare three reading, and raise money for mental health awareness?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, oh let's do it.
SPEAKER_00And he's like, Yeah, let's do it. So um Heather Laggenkamp produced it. My buddy Matt Murray helped produce it, and we through Dee Dee Hirsch raised about 20 grand for Didi Hirsch.
SPEAKER_01That's amazing.
SPEAKER_00Robert read Robert. Nancy was read by Heather, of course. Um we had everybody there but Jennifer Rubin and Ken Sagos. Uh Brooke Thiees did Jerry, uh Jennifer's role uh as Taryn. Amanda did a lot of readings for us as well as different characters and doctors and stuff, and it was an incredible time. And we had the director Truck Russell read all the stage direction on stage.
SPEAKER_01Oh, how fun!
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so it was really cool. And um, yeah, like I said, we raised 20 G's for Didi Hirsch, which just turned out to be a wonderful thing. And I mean, you know, again, you talk about what it's for and and the movie and what's it about, and you know, you get to pull that money in. And we had Robbie Krieger sign a guitar that we sold for five thousand dollars. Whoa. That's cool. It was cool. He's obviously the guitarist from the doors.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_04I saw him in concert once. That was very cool.
SPEAKER_00You did?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was at when I worked at Pasadena Playhouse. He was there for one night and I said, I'm going. Sorry. Like I'm I'm gonna stay for this because this is historic. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You you know, you know, you have to go see him at uh at the Whiskey Go Go. You gotta go. Oh, oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_04Let's do it.
SPEAKER_00What a great little little podcast action, right? Like run around, say talk about scary things and like you know, you you may just even see the ghost of Jim Morris in there, you know.
SPEAKER_01You might. I would love nothing more.
SPEAKER_00It's pretty epic to go in there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And um, you know, because I'm Fonsey, I get to hang backstage with Robbie. Um and just to walk through those backstage area and just to even even imagine all the talent that walked down those steps and up those stairs, the Ramones. I mean, everybody. Pretty cool. So yeah, I think there definitely needs to be uh a nerd's reunion at the whiskey a go-go.
SPEAKER_01Ooh, don't give us any ideas.
SPEAKER_00I'm telling you, I'm full of them.
SPEAKER_04We should whiskey a go-go see it. I see what you did there. Yeah. When's my type five, Sam? Whenever you want it, boo. Whenever you want it, right?
SPEAKER_00You girls kill me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. We're goofballs. That's why we get along so well, though.
SPEAKER_04You know?
SPEAKER_00How long have you two been doing this podcast?
SPEAKER_04We started preparing for season one. January of 2024, and it released in October of 24. So this is a it's a little baby show.
SPEAKER_02We love it.
SPEAKER_01We're building it slowly and surely. But it's kind of like it's part of the horror nerd empire, if you will. That's such a bold statement. But um, no, so it started. I've been running the live show for four years now. I started at the Hollywood improv, and now I try to get my little horror tentacles anywhere else I can. And then any other horror themed venue I can get myself into. Midsummer Scream is probably my favorite. We get to do that.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00That's a great one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Any horror themed venues, like there's a horror-themed restaurant. It's a pizzeria place called the Fourth Horseman in Long Beach, if you've ever been there. We do the show there. Um, we did the show in New Orleans at a cabaret club on Halloween one night. Like we get around. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, clearly. Like, what is what do you feel is the scariest place that you've been that you have done the podcast?
SPEAKER_01Oh, the podcast. Um well, we like my office stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_04My office is fine.
SPEAKER_00Or I say scary, not funny.
SPEAKER_04No, it's my house is haunted, so it is scary, but yeah, it's fine. Bonnie's a little sensitive.
SPEAKER_01She picks up on spirits.
SPEAKER_02She's saying.
SPEAKER_01But I mean, we did like anywhere we can take our portable mics, we'll take it. So we've done some stuff on the Queen Mary and at the mortuary and you know, different places, but we love the paranormal, so it's not really we're like hoping to catch something, of course, because we're those people. And we have, yeah. And we have, yeah, yeah, yeah. Probably the actual scariest place that I've ever done the show was at a festival in Riverside that was not run properly. It was a nightmare. It was just I got there and they're like, Yeah. So do you see that trailer hitch on the other end of the park away from all the people? That's your stage. And uh, what do you mean you need a microphone? I was like, okay. That was the scariest show I've ever done. We wound up just trying to make light of it and we had the best of time. I was literally like just trying to bark at people to try to get them to come watch the comedians. And at one point, I'm like, hey, dead clown on stilts, get over here.
SPEAKER_02Like, I'm just yelling at people, trying to get them to come.
SPEAKER_01But the best part was this, and we were in a park, so I think that there were families there just to go to the park and didn't know there was anything happening. So this little girl who ironically was carrying like a couple sticks that looked like a wooden crucifix. I don't know why. But this little girl walks up right in front of me at the beginning of where the stage area is, just looked at me, listened to one joke, was like, ah, and left. And I'm like, did I just walk an eight-year-old? Comedy's great. Yeah. That was my scariest, funniest moment doing this.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh. Wow. That's amazing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00She's like, I'm out.
SPEAKER_01I mean, you know what? Kids are the toughest crowd. They will tell you if it's funny or not.
SPEAKER_00And teenagers.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and teenagers. Actually, I did get a bit out of it. Thank goodness I got something out of it. But when I did the show a couple weeks ago at the mortuary, this girl who must have been in her young 20s, who was at the show, I'm walking out and we decorate. So I'm carrying my ghost face and my props and my Freddy dolls and all my creepy stuff going. She's just watching me the whole time. Eventually she stops me and she says, I'm I'm I'm sorry. Um, I'm so sorry. It's just you look so much like my neighbor. Like you look exactly like my neighbor. And then I, as a joke, said, Well, she must be pretty hot. And the girl goes, Bonnie, were you standing next to me? Okay. And I'm like dying on the inside of like, I'm mortified, and this is also hilarious at the same time. Cause this girl, it just went right over her head that she completely insulted me. But Ira, you know what the best part is?
SPEAKER_00What?
SPEAKER_01She is my neighbor. She is my neighbor.
SPEAKER_00That's hysterical.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Now, what is that's that's very funny. Now wait, did she move in after or no?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, I've got here first. Darn it. Yeah. And she always parks, she always parks her Jeep, like where my boyfriend should be parking his car. So I'm like, oh, I know exactly who you are, lady.
SPEAKER_00That car gets eggs, you know. I don't know what happened. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04We deny any liability. We deny any involvement in that whatsoever. No, it was so funny because we got back to your car and I was like, Don't listen to her, Sam. You're super hot. Don't listen to her.
SPEAKER_00Don't even take that.
SPEAKER_04Don't listen to somebody with the Gen Z stare. Don't listen to her.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_04You might have tried a hundred platforms, each with hidden costs, plugins, multiple logins. But now there's Beamly. Drag and drop website, podcast hosting, online courses, memberships, digital products, and 0% platform fees. All your tools in one crypt. Uh, place. Head to beamly.com and raise your creator studio from the dead. In the best way.
SPEAKER_01Ugh I know. I re speaking of young people, do you ever talk to people who were raised? Like like, you know, 20-year-olds and younger. Like they were raised on CGI and like computer animated effects. Do they ever have you ever gotten comments from people being like, wow, the 80s were weird, like not knowing the difference between a practical effect and a CGI effect?
SPEAKER_00I I've never I've never gotten it in that way, but I feel like a lot of the people that have come up to me have said, you know, how much cooler it was to have the way, you know, it was laid out and the things that happened and the, you know, the things coming out of my fingertips. And it was so much cooler than an actual, like, you know, like the CGI stuff. Um, yeah. But nobody's like on like, wow, well, watch that. But it's really, again, you you gotta go back to that era, you know. You give give that era props for for what we had and what we did with what little amount of money we we had, you know.
SPEAKER_01Right. Right. And that film, what, it was made for like four million and gross like 44 million or something insane.
SPEAKER_00Something crazy like that. I remember it came, it was first in the box office the weekend it opened up and it made like 12.9 million dollars.
SPEAKER_02That's insane.
SPEAKER_00And I think it was made for like literally like 1.5 or something. Wow. Um, something like super, super duper cheap.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It was crazy. We cut corners, we used tons of bee smoke to make it look foggy and stuff. And so we were constantly hacking up a lung and throwing it to the side.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, you know, there were scenes where where Freddie rips through, we're all in the mental um thing trying to save Ken Sagos. And um, you know, we're all in there together, and all of a sudden the talons come right through the wall and starts ripping, ripping through it and stuff. And um, we're all like, no! Well, they had fans and actual goose down feathers. So we're like, oh god. Like literally choking. Oh my god. I remember Heather just having like, I gotta get out of here, I can't take it. It was, it was, you know, it was kind of out there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Well, I mean it it was worth it. It looked like it.
SPEAKER_00It was so worth it. I wouldn't change a thing, other than I wish I had not died and made it to number four.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, there was that. You know, but but you left a legacy, you know.
SPEAKER_00Ah, yes. I left a wheelchair and a legacy. Yeah, in the dream. Somebody has the wheelchair. There were two of them that they built, and they were like almost six feet tall and huge. And um one fan, I think in Texas has because they blew up the first one and then they had a second one. So one fan has that second one. I think it's like I think it's like twelve thousand bucks or something.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow.
SPEAKER_00Or maybe even more.
SPEAKER_01Where did they get that from?
SPEAKER_00From props. I guess props sold it or whatever, and collectors can find anything. I found out that the hero glove in Nightmare on Elm Street 3, the one that kills Nancy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The West is listed at $250,000. And it's retractable.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's a good one.
SPEAKER_00And there's there were only two retractable gloves, the one that kills Nancy and the one that kills me.
SPEAKER_01Oh, well, you should have that glove. You should have a glove.
SPEAKER_00I should have that. Someone has it. Someone out there has it, and they should give it back to me.
SPEAKER_01If you are out there, if you are listening and you have one of the retractable gloves, give it back.
SPEAKER_00Bring it back now. Yeah. I'm gonna tell your mom.
SPEAKER_01That's right.
SPEAKER_00Don't mess with the wizard.
SPEAKER_01Did you get to see the big worm? The big Freddy worm?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That was super cool. That was super cool. So we shot that part all separate down in a warehouse downtown across the street from the county jail. That was scary. Oh god. That was scary. You walk out of there at four o'clock in the morning and you have to go by there. And that was no fun. But in we had all separate rooms, and they built that whole area, and that worm, that face, it was just amazing. And watching poor Patricia, man, just going getting slammed down, and you know, it was a wild, wild worm.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Oh man, I'm sure. She's done some really cool stuff in horror. Like, I love Stigmata. That's such a good movie. She's so good in that movie. And I used to watch Medium obsessively. I watched every episode of Medium.
SPEAKER_00She was great in that. I haven't seen the uh Stigmata, but I also need to watch the new movie she just did.
SPEAKER_01Uh They Will Kill You.
SPEAKER_00Yes, they will kill you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I won't give you any spoilers, but yeah. Okay. Definitely goes to the city. Did they kill anybody or there were some people that maybe were unalived. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Okay. I just wanted to say.
SPEAKER_01I think so. But there's a deeper well, you'll have to see it, but yeah, she's fabulous. I literally saw it because I'm like, oh, she's in it. I'll see it. I'm in.
SPEAKER_00She's great. She's going to um Steel City Con.
unknownOh, okay.
SPEAKER_00In Pennsylvania. Yeah, in Pittsburgh.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_00There was a chance that we were gonna get to go and be there with her, but I think Robert didn't want to do it.
SPEAKER_01So yeah. Yeah. That's well, I'm imagining he's probably got a full schedule, and you know, I'm sure that he's not uh that it would require a lot to get him to uh for sure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Now have you gals met him yet?
SPEAKER_01I have not. No, not yet. I have not.
SPEAKER_00More nerds have to.
SPEAKER_01I know. I took it. We're working on it. We're working on it. But now that we know a guy. Then we know a guy who knows again.
SPEAKER_00Just saying.
SPEAKER_01Just saying.
SPEAKER_00You know, I've been killed by him, so you sure have.
SPEAKER_01Well, I did go to the when he got his star on the Walk of Fame. I did go to that. And that was massive. Like I also went to the John Carpenter one, which I heard that that like John Carpenter said, no, no, no, give Robert the Halloween day. It happened on Halloween, which is really cool. But it was massive. I mean, it was massive. But honestly, my favorite part was where we were lined up to like kind of get into like the stage area, where we were all waiting. It was across the street from a school and it's Halloween. And so all these little kids and their cute little outfits would come out and be like, hey, what are you guys waiting for? And we're all like Freddie Krueger. We're yelling at a bunch of kids that Freddie Krueger is coming. And we weren't wrong. We weren't lying. But the great thing, the kids were all like, oh, okay. And just walked off. They were like so confused.
SPEAKER_00The day that he got his star, I was there as well.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness. I didn't see. I saw Ken, but I don't think I saw you.
SPEAKER_00I was front and center with Ronnie Blakely. I brought her in because she was like basically in a a walker. So I I guided her to the very front. And I was in the front row with Heather and Eli and Robert. And yeah, I was, but I was to the left or to the right of them. So um but what an what a day that was.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh. All is ready, children.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Oh, what a day. That was just phenomenal.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It truly was. Just the spirit, the excitement, the energy. It was, yeah, it was really, really cool experience to get to see that. I mean, I didn't I didn't get to see a lot of it because I sadly was on the wrong side. I was stuck behind all the platforms with the cameras on it. So I didn't get to see a lot. I saw a lot of photographers' butts. That was nice. That was nice.
SPEAKER_00That's kind of cute, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Oh, not quite you were Heather, but you know, it's it was I heard it. I heard it all.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and Robert played it more towards you guys. But yeah, oh my gosh, all of Freddie's children were there pretty much.
SPEAKER_01Definitely. They were devoted.
SPEAKER_00The cool thing was the after party was at Musso and Frank's.
SPEAKER_01I love Muso and Frank. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00I kind of had great food, great martini, great conversations. I mean, they had both rooms and just everybody was there. Chuck Russell was there, Rachel Talley was there, Sarah Reisher was there. Sean Greenblatt had flown back in from New York City to be there. Oh. He was in Freddie's Dead. Oh, wow. What a nice reunion. It was great. So many, so many cool people.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Musso and Frank's is just like the old Hollywood place. I mean, if you think about everyone who must have eaten there over the years, it just feels like you're walking into the 40s, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's that's the place I met Pee-Wee Herman. Oh, Ruben Sword.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness. I've heard Cassandra Peterson speak about him quite a bit. And so it's really nice. They were really close, so it's nice to kind of get to know him on a different level through someone else who's also equally amazing.
SPEAKER_00So Pee-wee Paul stole the director for his uh Pee Wee's Big Adventure. That was who directed that? That was uh Tim Burton. Tim Burton, there you go. Yeah. Originally, I was in Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Yeah, you were. And originally we were going to have Tim Burton as our director.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Oh gosh.
SPEAKER_00But could you imagine what that would have been? So it would have taken on such a different meaning. I mean, it's great the way it is. Jim Signorelli was wonderful. You know, he he produced a lot of the Saturday Night Live and he was great. But could you imagine if Tim Burton had directed it?
SPEAKER_01Oh my God.
SPEAKER_03That would have been nuts.
SPEAKER_00Could you imagine how much different my career would have been?
SPEAKER_01I think your career turned out pretty gosh darn good if I don't hear it.
SPEAKER_00I gotta tell you, I think I'm pretty lucky. I I definitely am, you know. Cassandra Peterson, Freddie Krueger, you know, working with Jason Reitman on Ghostbusters Afterlife, getting the voice, the lint the mini Staypuff characters.
SPEAKER_01I love that that oh my gosh, I love that that's you. They were my favorite part.
SPEAKER_00Weren't they great?
SPEAKER_01Oh, they were so fun. Oh, they were horrible.
SPEAKER_00Uh so I do a ton of ADR work. You are you familiar with ADR? Yes. Oh god. You know, a lot of the background voices, like, oh hello, I'll have a coke or we're like so I knew Jason from way back when and I was like, dude, I'll do anything to be a part of this. He says, of course. So he brought me in for the ADR session. So I worked from like nine until three, you know, screaming at ghosts chasing after us and and being ghosts, screaming at the people running away, and and lots of lots of fun things in and out and stuff, and then wrapped at three, and the group leader said, Oh, you have to stay. Jason wants you to do uh extra voices. I was like, Oh yeah. So I waited around for an hour, and then this was right after COVID, so we we were all doing it on Zoom. So um I got to voice a ton of those mini Staypuff characters with John Kassier. And uh God, there were just a ton of incredible voice actors that were there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um that was Heaven.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, the the career has uh has done really well for the horror, and then, you know, also been on like fun shows like Alias, did eight episodes of that working with Jennifer Gardner. I got to work with Victor Garber and Terry O'Quinn.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_00Do we remember what horror movie he did? Uh I remember The Stepfather.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I do remember The Stepfather. Yep. Yep, yep, yep.
SPEAKER_00I was I fanned out. I was a fanboy on set.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00I watched that movie over and over again. And uh get to get to actually work with them, it was great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. If I mean, really, you should go over everything you've done and just give yourself a massive pat on the back, be like, hey, I did pretty freaking good.
SPEAKER_00Hey, hey, that's not too bad. And I got a few things coming up still. I mean, I did a thing called Keep Quiet with Lou Diamond Phillips. Nice. And then I did another horror thing called Catnip. Catnip Claws. Santa Claus isn't the only one in town.
SPEAKER_01I'm so on board. I have two cats. I'm on board. They are little terrorists.
SPEAKER_00I play Bruce Dern's son.
SPEAKER_01Really?
SPEAKER_00Joey Lauren Adams.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Chevy Chase.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_00Brooke Bundy from Nightmare 3.
SPEAKER_01Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_00Uh Toy Newkirk from Nightmare Four.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's exciting. I've been to many Christmas parties with Bruce Dern.
SPEAKER_00Oh wow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's friends. So my friend Tom Dolby directed my Horror Nerd One Hour special. And Tom is the son of Ray Dolby who invented Dolby. So his family goes way back. And Tom has shot some incredible films and is writing a book. He's pretty phenomenal. But he knows Bruce quite well. So I've had many conversations just on the couch talking about the Dodgers and you know, he's lovely. He's so nice, and he'll just talk and talk. He's so nice.
SPEAKER_00That's so cool. I never I didn't get to meet him because my part is actually a voiceover. I play his son, but um, it's a voiceover role. And then I met him at the Hollywood um convention, you know, the one that's over in Burbank.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I go to the Hollywood show, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Exactly. And he's like, Who are you? I'm like, Oh, well, we kind of work together.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay, great.
SPEAKER_00So yeah.
SPEAKER_01Amazing. Long story short. So, and I have it's one of my best jokes. It works every time. But anyway, the story is I used to intern on the show Seventh Heaven, if you remember that show. And so it was my job to go through the actors' headshots whenever we put out like a breakdown for a new character. One day we put out the role of a Catholic priest, and I'm going through, and I shit you not, I pull out Robert's headshot. Like I'm holding it in my hand. And I'm like, I don't know who's oh my god, I lose my mind. I go to Vicky Huff and I beg her, please, please, please, please, can we bring him in? She said, Oh, I don't know, Samantha. Well, I mean, Robert and Glenn is a Catholic priest. I said, Yeah, it's perfect. He's already played a child molester. I was like, it's perfect. She didn't, she wouldn't let me bring him in. I'm like, come on. Oh, no. Jumi is solid, Vicky.
SPEAKER_00Come on. That would have been cool. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01That would have been their highest rated episode ever.
SPEAKER_00Ever. Just seven. Ever.
SPEAKER_01Just seven.
SPEAKER_00Oh my god. So the last headshot I ever handed out was to Damien from Terrifier.
unknownNo way.
SPEAKER_00It was right before he was doing Terrifier 2 or 3. 3. And I was like, here, you gotta have it. So I miss those days of having to submit your headshots and you know, getting a page that you got an audition. And, you know, that's how I found out that I got Nightmare in Home Street Part Three. That's how I found out that I got to play Roblo's brother in a movie called Illegally Yours that Peter Bogdanovich directed from my manager beeping me. And then I had to get on the phone call and say, Well, kid, you're on a roll. You got the job.
SPEAKER_04Oh, a beeper. I love it. Well, I'm getting beeped right now. So but thank you so much for joining us.
SPEAKER_00Hey, thank you for having me. And you girls are funny and scary at the same time. And remember, whatever you do, don't fall asleep on the Horror Nerds Podcast.
