Along the way, the trio shares plenty of laughs, horror-fueled tangents, and the chemistry that helped launch the podcast. It's an honest conversation about friendship, mental health, and finding your way back to what you love, all wrapped in classic Horror Nerds humor.

You know what's funny is the recording. Like, I can't tell if that's an Bonnie human or Bonnie. Have you been Megan this whole time?
SPEAKER_07Maybe. Maybe. Hello. Yeah. If I can take a job from a robot, I'm gonna do it. That's all, you know. Screw it. Preach. Preach, preach. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_02Welcome to Harned. The podcast.
SPEAKER_04Oh my God, there's like there's there's Bonnie, I think there's something in the room with us. I think there's something here. A ghost? Yeah. Something about a tombstone of a ghost. Hello?
SPEAKER_03Is anybody there?
SPEAKER_01Now I'm afraid.
SPEAKER_03I know that voice. You know that voice. You know that face. It's tombstone tomorrow. That was wild.
SPEAKER_01I am back from the multiverse.
SPEAKER_04Wow. Oh my gosh. You know what happened? I think that last episode, remember at the end of it, Anthony was like, I'll be right back. And that was when was that?
SPEAKER_07That's why you don't say that, kids. You don't say that. Yeah, we learn nothing from Scream. Did we learn nothing, Tony? Right? Did you trip in the woods? What happened?
SPEAKER_01No, actually, uh, Victor Von Doom came. I was thinking he was just a nice guy trying to help out, and he abducted me into a another universe, and I was on Battle World, and uh I somehow survived, and I'm here. How are you? I miss you. Oh my goodness. Like it feels like, you know, a year, but my calendar says like a day. How much time have I missed?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it it it's it's been a minute, but it feels like yesterday that you were just we've oh, you've been with us the whole time. You were just extremely quiet.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Wow, my head is all messed up now.
SPEAKER_07Also, don't trust Victor Von Doom. Let me just let me tell you, don't don't trust that guy.
SPEAKER_01I know.
SPEAKER_07You learn the one time and then you never do it again.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it it it was it was quite the situation uh on Battle World meeting Thor and Red Hulk and a few other things. So it was a lot of Harrison Ford.
SPEAKER_07Sorry, continue. Let your podcast rise from undead obscurity. Beamly hosts your show, builds your site, handles paywalls and memberships with zero platform fees. Your resurrection begins at Beamly.com.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so Anthony, what's been shaken? Fill us in. What horror movies have you seen that you loved? What horror things have you done that kept you going while you've been so busy working? Catch us up.
SPEAKER_07What scary things are happening? I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Full disclosure. Um not much in the way of horror. I have been literally since the last time folks heard me, I started a new job, which I knew would take on a lot of my time. Uh, and you know, with a small child and familial duties, I thought, like, you know, cool, we're we're all good here. Yeah. My family barely barely saw me. It's been a long year of work, uh a long year of uh taking care of my health, but not necessarily my mental health. So, you know, there was a point a couple months ago where I was speaking with my wife, and I said, you know, there is a massive void in me, a massive one when it comes to balance and when it comes to the people I care about and I love, and I haven't been able to see them, I haven't been able to talk to them. I could send a text here and there, but how do I do this ultimate game of catch-up? So I decided to wait until two weeks ago when I was in LA for a work trip and just rando texted a couple of folks and uh took you a little off guard, but it was uh it was a great dinner. A lot of catching up, but I miss giving you guys hugs. We missed you too.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was like no time had passed at all.
SPEAKER_01No, yeah, no, it was uh it made my trip, literally made my trip. It was my wife was saying, you know, you need you need to see Bonnie and Sam. And I said, I I agree with that.
SPEAKER_04So Yeah. Shout out to Maria, shout out to wives who were like, hey honey, go do things that make you happy, dumbass. I say that with love. Go do things that that bring your heart happiness, watch a scary movie, do some like, but I think from what you were telling us, it sounds like the amazing side of things that came out of this was that Maria was like, Oh, horror really makes your heart happy, and you haven't had time to really play with it in a minute, and it actually did affect you.
SPEAKER_01It really did. It really did.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01I think I was at a point last October where my day job was so consuming, and you know, a lot of projects were coming to the end, and you know, I think that I'm not the only person on this planet who has given everything to art or given everything to something you care about. And, you know, one would think we're old enough to say, yeah, don't expect too much in return from life. And, you know, it it it happens. And so I think last October I was at a point where I just literally needed to shut down and take a lot of inventory uh about where I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. And it's really a hard spot to do that when the ground underneath you is moving. And it took some time. And you know, I'm not a drinker. I mean, we all like a lot of folks when they were younger, and I wouldn't say it for this generation, generations we grew up in, you'd go out, you'd socialize, you'd have a couple of drinks. I I I stopped doing that years ago. But when I have stress and stuff going on, the one thing that's been there for me my whole life was food. And now that I'm in my late 40s, uh, I can't do that the same way I used to. So I was stress eating a lot last year. I got huge. I was like 280, and that's big for me. And a few months ago, just before the conversation with my wife, I ended up in the hospital twice in a week and with some severe issues, stomach issues. And turns out I got liver disease, stage two, and it's not from alcohol. If folks can take care of themselves, if there's one thing they can take out of this, is get your annual physical, stay on top of your blood work, especially as you get older, and try not to take in too much of the refined sugars and saturated fats, because those take years off your life. And honestly, the funny part is, and this isn't like staged or anything, but as of today, I weighed myself. In the past nine weeks, I've lost 30 pounds.
SPEAKER_07Wow. Yeah, that's amazing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm trying I'm completely reinvested in taking care of my body and my mind. And, you know, I still was taking care of my mind, but when you are like at the battlefront, so to speak, when it comes to everything with work, responsibilities at home, and trying to be a good dad, if you aren't balanced in making sure that you're taking care of the things that make you happy, such as being with my friends, whether it be virtually or not, and talking about subjects that you care about, you are doing yourself a disservice if you do not find time to do that.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You mean born program you know.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, a hundred percent. And like, I think my my therapist also has a podcast, which feels like the most LA thing I could ever say in my life. But she just released an episode saying, like, sometimes you have to step back in order to see before you can move forward. And like you have to do these things to take care of yourself. Because if all you're ever doing is like, that's why they say people in survival mode tend to lose sight of everything else because they're not doing those things that bring them joy, that make them happy, because sometimes there's no time for it. And like you were saying, you weren't being able to take care of yourself in so many different ways, and then you had to shift to other things, and then some of that other stuff stopped, and you really see where that takes a toll on you when you don't have those things that you had, but you kind of can't in that moment. And like I just want to say thank you for sharing that with us. And maybe somebody out there listening to this will go, Oh, that's what I'm going through right now. And like, I feel seen, I feel validated, or maybe they just went through that and they don't think anybody else understands. But maybe you are opening up somebody feeling seen and understood and connecting with somebody just by sharing your story. And I'm really grateful that you're here and you're healthier and happier, and that you're sharing this with all of us. So thank you for that.
SPEAKER_04Scary movie lovers, Pasadena lovers, creepy ass former mortuary lovers that are totally haunted, that are really freaking cool to see a show in. We are back at Missing at the Mortuary in Pasadena for horror nerd and all horror themed stand-up comedy show, July 24th, 7 30 p.m. with a badass lineup. Oh my gosh, the horror gods have hurt us. It might have been a firework, but we will see you there. The ghosts will be ready. Uh take a start right now with the link below. We will see you in Pasadena, Missing at the Mortuary, Horror Nerd Comedy, July 24.
SPEAKER_01Thank you. Thank you for being my friends and not judging, just listening and caring about their friend.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That went so, so far and so appreciated to a point you'll never understand. Because it uh I'm also suffering from aphasia. If folks know what that is, I at work got a concussion, and I was actually in LA quietly for another conference, and I ended up getting shipped out of LAX on an ambulance, and I'm still dealing with some effects of that. So if I pause here and there, please forgive me. I'm trying to collect my words. So there's another example of how life just throws you your curveballs. I miss my friends, I miss what you have done with the show. It is taking off in a way that I am like I just so you know, I may not have been on every week, but I was in the background seeing every post, seeing everything, and just doing that side fist pump, being like, they're doing it, they're doing it, they're doing it. And I live through you both to see the hard work that you put in, to see where it's going, to see the connections you are breaking through, just having so many more incredible guests on. The brand, horror nerd, is known. It's known. Sam's work for years is paying off. Bonnie, you just helped put a jetpack on it too. And I'm honored to know you both. Two strong, incredible female entertainers, businesswomen who are not just taking care of horror, but taking care of themselves and taking care of community. And that's the legit truth. Like the things I love the most is seeing, you know, the mental health episodes, because that those are the things that just I mean, that is my life. That's all of our lives, right? Like we're living in this dystopian world right now.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01And that's our backdrop, that's our baseline, which is insane. That's what we wake up to in the morning.
SPEAKER_07Right. What fresh hellscape awaits me today?
SPEAKER_04Like, wow, none of this is normal. Yeah. No, it's not. And Anthony, when you were like, they're business women, I'm like, oh my God, are we Romy and Michelle? We didn't invent post-its, but we did keep the show going until Anthony had a moment to breathe and catch up. But for for any of our listeners who maybe have only listened to the more recent episodes, we are the original Titans of Terror. We are the trio of terrificness. Um, we started this together. I mean, we sat on the steps of the Michael Myers house and we took our pictures and we made our cover artwork for the Horror Nerds comedy podcast. We had our little Michael Myers doll and we rented a podcast studio before this is before I think Riverside was really, you know, picking up as a podcast recording, like the the way to go.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04But we were just audio. Yeah. Yeah, we were just audio. And even before that, we were planning this for what, like a year? Trying to make it so that yes, it's a horror-themed podcast, but it's more about connection and in-the-moment conversations. And we love a movie review, absolutely. But we thought, okay, well, how can we make this a little bit more unique for us? Like, how can we make this even more fun for three goofballs who happen to love this shit and we're all our own misfits in our own way? How do we harness that into an audio recording? And this is what we came up with.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, our six senses of humor. We brought them all, our six, six, six senses of humor.
SPEAKER_00Now you could run, you could hide, you could try to, but he always has a way of finding you. You can buy online or at a con near you with handcrafted blends inspired by horror. Magic or box. Buy Alex. Because they don't care to be so legendary. Sometimes I wonder how I live without it.
SPEAKER_05A little glass file?
SPEAKER_00And the little glass file goes into a card when it covered and the titrains goes somewhere to a cap. And when the cap comes off, it starts in the red force. Line Mat got a Mighty Fine Tent.
SPEAKER_07Mighty Fine Tent?
SPEAKER_00And the Mighty Fine Tats includes Atomic Woods and Top Red. Get these and more from Alex's book at Midsummer Stream in August.
SPEAKER_01The other day we were texting each other, and uh what was it? I what was it? My heart feels whole again. The trio of Stoogies are back.
SPEAKER_03That's us.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Oh, oh my gosh, Anthony.
SPEAKER_04Uh me and Bonnie were talking about it yesterday. I think you of all people will find this funny because you're a dad, right? You're a wonderful dad, and that's part of the reason. Also, you've been like being super dad to an amazing kid. So I found a car seat, like my my my neighbors were throwing out this like $300 car seat. I'm like, well, that's ridiculous. Someone could use this. So I took it to a thrift store thinking I can donate it. Some, you know, I'm sure someone will want this for 20 bucks. It's worth like three, four hundred bucks, whatever. Take it, it's a liability thing. So I was like, all right, well, what am I gonna do with this thing? And then I realized I have a pint-sized Chucky doll in the garage. What if I put Chucky in the car seat and then put him on stage and all the shows? But even better, what if I just drive around with him in the back seat so that people just randomly look at him?
SPEAKER_01Does that mean you can take the eight like the high the uh person carpool lane?
SPEAKER_04I feel like if I did that and I got pulled over, if I had a cop with a sense of humor, he would let me go. But if not, I would be screwed.
SPEAKER_01I think that's the only way you should drive, to be honest with you.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, or put the little Michael Myers, the Micro Myers in there that that we went viral with that video at the hedge. We'd put him in the car seat.
SPEAKER_04Which was also kind of like a launch to our podcast, really was this this stuffed Michael Myers doll that I got from Midsummer Scream, like a an artist, like she handmade it and it how it's like what not even two feet tall. It's tiny, but it's adorable. And yeah, so when we were fucking around doing our promo for the beginning of the episode or of the podcast, um, we thought, let's take them to the hedge and and say something big is coming and have this tiny little Michael pop out of the hedge. And that's still that that was such a great day. That was so fun.
SPEAKER_07That was a great day. It's gone viral a couple times, which always makes me laugh, like once a year. I'm just like people love little mini Michael Myers, they love that Evergreen content.
SPEAKER_04Evergreen, and I should say, I do have Leatherface in my backyard right now, trimming back the bushes. So if you hear anything weird, it's totally normal. He just needed a new suit.
SPEAKER_01I missed him. If Leatherface is back there and he's going to town on Isaac, Leatherface has a lot of work to do.
SPEAKER_04Isaac, we're talking about any of this. Do you see people of the Horner's comedy podcast land? This is why we're the three stooges, because we can't help ourselves. We literally can't help ourselves.
SPEAKER_01You see, he's back with a mile marker for that thing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. This is more like this this anyways.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, Isaac.
SPEAKER_07No, you're not. No, I'm not. And Samantha's definitely not. No. I should ask Adam if he's sorry. He's probably seen it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay, it's about to get a lot like louder, so I'm just gonna mute and you guys talk for a minute.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_01Cool. Okay. I mean, Bonnie Air. Leatherface.
SPEAKER_07Listen to Leatherface. We're talking about Michael, and he's like, No, me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's he's he's always been the uh the black sheep in a way, you know.
SPEAKER_07He's yeah, but shout out to my friend SoCal Leatherface. I've known that guy for 20 uh over 20 years. No, that's a weird thought. Anyways, that's a weird thought. I don't like that. Then I'm aging myself. What were you gonna say, my friend?
SPEAKER_01No, yeah. Trust me, the the closer I get to uh to the half a century mark, the more I think about like, oh my god, that was 40 years ago. Mind blowing. But meanwhile, guess what's still cool from 40 years ago? Horror.
SPEAKER_07Horror, Star Wars, horror. Why did I say that? Like I'm one of the Kennedys horror.
SPEAKER_01Horror nerd.
SPEAKER_07Horror nerd.
SPEAKER_01Horror nerd.
SPEAKER_07Horror nerd. Terrify you.
SPEAKER_01You got that cute podcast with all the two broads out in California.
SPEAKER_03Mute myself just so I can scream bitch at you guys.
SPEAKER_01I mean, yeah, and I mean it's not a return until I say that, right?
SPEAKER_03Truly. Is that where it's called Return of the Bitch? That's the episode Return of the Bitch.
SPEAKER_01And if I can suggest to folks to watch something that's not horror nerd related, um, just seek out any of the Sopranos medleys on the funniest moments on the show. And it's basically what we just did there for ten seconds. It's just like a lot of guttural, oh, what are you doing over here? Pissed on my shoes. I'm a ghoul. Yeah. Yeah. Coming off. What?
SPEAKER_03No fucking ZD? Cracks me up every time.
SPEAKER_01What was that? What when the kid uh at Christmas, the kid was acted up. He's like, fuck you, Santa.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_01And everybody goes, What are you doing? It was like a family event. Sopranos, kind of horror with a lot of the bloodbath in it. Tangential. I get it. But you two need what I need from you both, I need suggestions from the black hole that I've been in the past year. What do I need to do to catch up with horror nerds?
SPEAKER_06Wow.
SPEAKER_01Well, I should movie-wise, entertainment-wise, magic oil box, I heard, is just going through the roof.
SPEAKER_07Alex, are we love our sweet little angel baby?
SPEAKER_04Horror aromatherapy baby. Yeah, Alex is amazing. He comes to all like a lot of the live shows. And uh yeah, definitely cover cover yourself in some essential oils. I think when you were here, you were like, Oh, I should really sage. And I had, I'm like, here, here's sage Palo Santa. What do you need? Um
SPEAKER_01Yeah, folks, so you don't know, when I saw Sam and Bonnie, I said, We're having a conversation catching up, and I go, I need sage, I need all that stuff in my life. And she goes, Look behind the shelf.
SPEAKER_04I know. You were literally sitting in front of it.
SPEAKER_01I'm smoking I'm smoking it now. I'm smoking sage at this point.
SPEAKER_03Gotta do what you gotta do.
SPEAKER_01Gotta do what you gotta do.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Gotta make you an offer, your camera feels. You gotta do what you gotta do.
SPEAKER_01And I hope your child is a masculine one.
SPEAKER_05Miss on the bay of my horror podcast. That was good. Thanks.
SPEAKER_07Oh my gosh. V that's a new character. Sometimes I just like to to pretend I'm Marlon Brando, but like the fat Marlon Brando sometimes.
SPEAKER_04It's just can we can we do a new segment called like Marlon Brando Reviews Horror Films? So we can have the review element, but it has to be Marlon Brando. Sure, why not? And it'll just make me have to get better with that.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_04Let's why not? Because he was Carrie, right? Yeah. Like instead of Stella, it's Carrie.
SPEAKER_07Come on. I kind of love this because, like, you know, listen, I love the first Superman movie. Who doesn't? I have to go on my nerd tangent right now. That man was just phoning it in. He didn't even memorize his lines for that movie. They were like on cue cards next to baby Calel. And he's like, Krypton. And it's like, nobody pronounces it that way.
SPEAKER_01You didn't hear him say that in the first movie?
SPEAKER_04He goes, I forgot about that. No one memorize it. No. And who's gonna correct Marlon Brando? You know, they're just like, uh, just fixing it. Not Richard Donner. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. There's actually an interview with oh god, Christopher Reeve. He what was it on the Tonight Show?
SPEAKER_07I think so, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Where they asked him about Marlon Brando, and in the nicest way possible, he made Marlon Brando look like the most awful person on the planet. Like Christopher Reeve, the nicest guy on the planet by all accounts, was saying how bad it was to work with him.
SPEAKER_03Boy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_07Boy. Am I about to get haunted by the ghost of Marlon Brando? Bring it on. Quite possibly. That was good too. Between you and me. All right, Sam, work on your Brando and we'll have a little trio brand.
SPEAKER_04I'll work in it. I'm working on it. But speaking of the tonight show, Anthony, I don't think I told you this. So when I was out at the Creep IE convention in Ontario, which is like with traffic, I mean, it's like at least an hour and 90 minutes outside of LA because traffic sucks here. Um, but I was out there, I was with uh David Bertolino, our uh spooky world friend, and we were having a good time, everything was lovely. And then I get a call from Flappers Comedy. Um, and they're like, hey, is there any way you can host for Jay Leno tonight? And I'm like, shit, I'm at a horror convention. I'm wearing like a weird wolf shirt. Fuck it, I'll do it. Yes. So I haul ass. I like I say hi to everyone I want to say hi to, and then I haul ass there and I show up and I felt like such a douche because you know, with Jay is like very classy, kind of old school. Like you want to look nice, you want to, you know, it's kind of a different um era a little bit where like comedy was just, I don't know, I really love the kind of the the way that it used to be. It was you wore a suit, you dressed up, you look nice, and now it's kind of the hoodie generation, if you will, which is fine. Just it's fine.
SPEAKER_07Like going to the airport.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, exactly. Oh my gosh, traveling. Yeah. That makes so much sense. But so I felt like kind of a douche in the first place. I'm like, oh boy. But then and and the the I was hosting, and the guy who was doing a guest spot was wearing a suit, looked handsome, and I'm like, oh my god, I look even more like a douche. So I I I think I said something. I was like, you know what, Jay? I've dressed up nicely, but I I just love you so much and I love working with you so much that I left a horror convention to come and host tonight. He's like, a what? And then the conversation explaining to Jay Lana what a horror convention was. It was just a look on his face was, oh he literally was like, What the hell is this girl talking about? He was very nice about it. He's lovely to work with, he's very nice and he always, you know, gives you notes and listens to your set. He's he's really lovely. But it was just funny. Well, hello, Horror Nerds, scary movie lovers, stand-up comedy lovers. And I know I have a super cool wolf on my shirt right now, but I am a mega shark head. I love sharks. And uh my very dear friends at the Cal State Long Beach Shark Lab need our help. We are doing a fundraiser July 31st, all shark-themed material, pro shark, obviously pro ocean, duh. Uh, we're gonna be talking about why the humans and all these share, like these scary shark movies. Maybe the humans are a little effed up, right? Maybe the shark was just being a shark and we should um respect and love the sharks. So it is a very, very, very special fundraiser. I am teaming up with Becca Melconian and Laugh Lee Ever After. Buried Under Your Bed is gonna be there. We have a phenomenal lineup of all ocean-loving, marine mammal-loving, um, shark-loving, whale-loving comics. So it's gonna be a very, very special night, and we need your help more than ever. Um, the lab needs our help. Funding is difficult. They need new equipment, they need to keep their uh students and their scientists in work. Um, so this is a really important event for me personally. So please, July 31st. There's a firework. July 31st, save the date. We will see you at the Hollywood Improv for the Cal State Long Beach Shark Lab fundraiser horror nerd. Yeah, yeah. But it was just funny trying to explain. I grew up watching the Tonight Show with my dad, and I grew up watching horror films with my dad. So to have this conversation of here's what a horror convention is, it was just it tickled me. It was funny.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, I mean, Frankenstein looked like he had shoulder pads on. Most of the business suits that both any gender wore in the 80s and 90s had shoulders pads in it. So, I mean, when it comes to that style, that era, I mean, who's to say that shoulder pad hoodies couldn't be the next thing?
SPEAKER_03Right?
SPEAKER_07Even Frankenhooker had a shoulder pad. You heard it here first, folks. Shoulder pad hoodies. Only available on our website, horror nerdspodcast.com. Actually, that's not a bad idea. That's actually not a bad idea. If any of you listening steal our idea, Marlon Brando's ghost will haunt you. Will haunt you. And throw gobagool on your body and eat it.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Gabago! Gabagoul. I'm over here now. Hey, I'm over here.
SPEAKER_02I missed you.
SPEAKER_01I love you both. And I'm scared to go. We love you too. We love you. I mean and in the horror podcast, I'll just say this. Life's scary enough, but you have a chance to make it unscary if you take the time to take care of yourself.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. That's great. And don't go alone, go with your friends.
SPEAKER_01Bingo.
SPEAKER_03Now I got all like emotional and thoughtful and deep. Look at us.
SPEAKER_01Thoughtful and deep?
SPEAKER_03And that's our show. I'll be right back!
